10 questions to ask a potential Wedding Photographer

How do you choose the right wedding photographer for you? Easy! Ask 10 searching questions and make sure you get truthful answers:

  1. Have you personally shot more than 50 weddings?
  2. Will you give me the names and phone numbers of six clients whose weddings you have photographed within the last 180 days?
  3. Are you happy for me to call them about your work?
  4. Will you organise an onsite recce with us before the wedding - at all the wedding day locations?
  5. Do you have an alternative strategy if it’s raining on the day?
  6. Will you shoot a mixture of traditional and reportage images?
  7. Can you put the preview images up on your website whilst we are on honeymoon?
  8. Can we keep the preview album?
  9. Can we buy a CD/DVD of the images so that we can print our own pictures?
  10. Do you have a back up plan if you are unable to photograph our wedding on the day?

It’s important that the photographer you choose is able to answer “yes” to all ten questions. However, you need to probe deeply his answer to Question 10.  Suppose s/he has a serious accident the day before your wedding: who will shoot your wedding pictures?
