Most of us thought recently that Moments’ founder, Hugh Graham, had lost the plot completely, when he bought an all black, classic Saab 900 full pressure turbo, first registered in April 1989.

He’s using Midge as his daily transport and wears a permanent grin on his face whenever he’s driving. “I got fed up with driving cars which can only be diagnosed by computers - because they often get it very expensively wrong. I decided to buy a Classic Saab 900, because it is being carefully and inexpensively maintained by an enthusiast who only works on Classic Saabs, knows the cars inside out and has a seemingly inexhaustible supply of spare parts. Furthermore they are the most fun to own and drive.”

Why Midge? Easy, Hugh’s registration mark is MJI 8399 – a private plate he acquired years ago, when the letters also stood for Member of the Journalists’ Institute. Today that organisation is known as The Chartered Institute of Journalists and Hugh is still a member.
